Marco Delmastro

I am a particle physicist currently working with the ATLAS experiment at CERN, where I’ve dedicated the twenty years to exploring the Higgs boson — from its discovery to detailed measurements of its properties – and to searches for signs of new physics at the LHC.
My expertise spans:
- High-energy physics at particle accelerators: Higgs physics, QCD precision measurements, EFT interpretations;
- Data science: large-scale data analysis, advanced statistics, algorithm development (C++/Python);
- Detector development: designing, prototyping, and operating high-energy electromagnetic calorimetry; signal processing and readout electronics.
In addition to my scientific work, I have successfully coordinated international research teams and managed projects involving collaborators from dozens of countries and multiple time zones. I currently lead the ATLAS Team and the FCC-PED group at LAPP Annecy, and co-coordinate the LHC Higgs Combination Working Group at CERN. I am a member of various research evaluation committees.
I am equally passionate about science education. Whether teaching, mentoring students and early-career scientists, or disseminating complex research findings to general audiences, I enjoy making science accessible and inspiring the next generation.
